Tired of the same old Sousa marches on your program? "Marche Lorraine", by French composer Louis Ganne, has been adapted for the concert band from the original version for brass band by one of the best arrangers ever, Mark Williams. This well-known tune will be a welcome addition to any concert or festival program. Vive la marche!
Technical Notes: The percussion parts are for snare drum, bass drum, crash cymbals, and triangle. Louis Ganne (1862-1923) was one of the most popular composers of operettas and ballet music in France at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. He was a student of Cesar Franck and Jules Massenet. He also wrote piano music and many marches, of which "Marche Lorraine" remains the best known. This arrangement for concert band has been adapted from the original version for brass band. All markings follow those in the original as closely as possible. The vertical wedge (or marcato) accent (^) can be interpreted as harder than the standard accent (>), with a slight bell-tone effect (a decreased dynamic after the accent). This charming turn-of-the-century French march will add a touch of class to your next concert program.
